Sunday, the Palestinian Public Prosecution Office started its investigation regarding the killing of a 25-year-old girl from the town of Beit Sira, west of Ramallah.

According to police spokesman Colonel Louay Irzeigat, the body was received this morning at the Palestine Medical Complex, after which an autopsy was conducted and several suspects were arrested.

A report issued recently by the Palestinian Police revealed that the murder rate in Palestine increased by 69 percent from the beginning of 2021 as compared to the same period in 2020. Other crime and violence increased by 40 percent.

Irzeigat warned at the time that this was a "very dangerous indicator."

The Palestinian police report revealed that since the beginning of this year, 22 civilians have been killed, in 18 crimes, compared to 13 killed in 2020 in the same period.

"This crime makes us fear the existence of organized crime, which is something that Palestine has not been accustomed to during the past years. Most of the crimes were simple and their causes were specific and expected," the Colonel said.
