The former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, an epidemiologist, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Maani, said that the indicators in the last three days show that “we are heading to enter a new wave of the Corona epidemic, but certainly there is more than one reason that the new wave will be less severe than the two previous ones.”

He added, on Roya's Donya ya Donya, that Jordan went through a state of epidemiological stability for 12 weeks, confirmed by daily statistical indicators, but the numbers of cases, deaths and positive PCR tests began to rise in the last three days.

He pointed out that "our entry into the new wave requires us to focus on two variables that represent a lifeline for Jordanians. Without the government's expansion of vaccination programs and the implementation of awareness programs to urge people to receive vaccinations, and without citizens' commitment to public safety requirements, the third wave will pose a danger."

The Delta mutation, he said, constitutes the second dangerous variable.

"About half a million people in Jordan over the age of 55 have not received the vaccine, and this means that they are at risk of being infected with the Delta mutation, especially since the indicators confirm that 95 percent of those who were recently admitted to hospitals due to the worsening of their symptoms of corona were unvaccinated, or only received the first dose."
