Delta mutant threatens Iraqi Kurdistan

Thursday, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced the registration of infections with the rapidly-spreading Delta mutant.

The Minister of Health of the Region, Saman Al-Barzanji, said in a press conference that the rate of infection with the coronavirus has risen dangerously in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Al-Barzanji added that infections with the virus have doubled inside Kurdistan hospitals, noting that only five percent of the region's population have received the vaccine. 

He called on Iraqi citizens to adhere to health guidelines and preventive measures, in order to avoid the danger of the third wave of the pandemic.
