UPDATE: Wreckage of missing Russian plane found

The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency said rescuers had found the wreckage of the plane, which had lost contact during a domestic flight in Kamchatka.

"Yes, they found the wreckage of the plane. I can't say where and in what conditions. Only tomorrow can the information be available. The plane will go to the place in the morning, and the helicopter will start," Alexey Khrabrov, Director General of the Kamchatka Aviation Corporation, was quoted by TASS news agency as saying.

A source in the emergency services confirmed that the wreckage of the stricken plane had been found, indicating that there were no survivors of the air disaster, while the Ministry of Emergencies stated that the wreckage was found 3.8 kilometers from the airport in the town of Ballana, noting that the plane hit a hill before it fell, which led to its crash.

Earlier Tuesday, Russian emergency services announced the loss of contact with a plane with 27 people on board.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry reported the plane took off on a flight to the town of Palana in Kamchatka.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Emergencies stated that six crew members and 21 passengers, including one child, were on board, adding that a helicopter and rescuers of the Ministry of Emergencies launched the search operation.
