Wednesday, the head of the coronavirus portfolio Adel al-Belbeisi said 211 people have been infected with mutated variants of coronavirus, 170 of whom were infected with the new COVID-19 strain called “Delta Plus.”

He noted that this mutated strain spreads faster than the mutated variant discovered in Britain by 50 percent.

Belbeisi pointed out that the Delta Plus mutation has been detected in 95 countries, adding that 99 percent of the new COVID-19 cases in the UK have tested positive for this strain.

He noted that the ministry is investigating possible cases of the Delta Plus mutation by following up with those who came into contact with positive cases.

Belbeisi stressed the importance of compliance with preventive measures including social distancing, wearing face masks, washing hands and vaccination.
