Over the past few days, Palestinians and Jordanians wishing to travel to Palestine have demanded the abolition of the registration platform for travel between the two countries.

According to them, the platform has become an obstacle to the freedom of movement of Palestinians and Jordanians.

Many activists saw many justifications pushing for the cancellation of the registration platform, foremost of which is the stabilization of the epidemiological situation in both Jordan and Palestine.

They indicated that the decrease in the number of daily COVID-19 infections on both sides calls for the consideration of the issue of registration via the platform, which has become an obstacle to the movement of people.

Palestinian activists said that Jordan is the only crossing point for the people of the West Bank, from which the number of travelers to Amman may exceed the number of people who commute to it daily from the kingdom's governorates.

Activists turned to the Palestine Parliamentary Committee in the House of Representatives in Jordan to address the government officially in this regard.

Notably, travelers have complained of fraud and extortion against them while traveling through companies that exploit their pockets when they need to travel.

The registration platform is a special electronic website established by the Jordanian government for people to register to travel to Jordan, through its land and air crossings.

Many suffer from the difficulty of accessing the platform and registering through it easily, not to mention the countless technical problems.

A certain number of travelers are allowed to enter from Palestine through the King Hussein Bridge per day, for those who are already registered on the site.

Palestinians confirmed that the platform created a new pathway for exploitation, as companies and people offered registration service for travel to Jordan for extra fees, ranging from 50 shekels up to 300 shekels per person (between JD 10-66).

Also, citizens in the West Bank complained of fraud cases, as people pay for the services and are not getting what they paid for in terms of registration.

They considered that these offices are not an authorized service, neither from the Jordanian government nor from the Palestinian government.

Activists called for the provision of a dignified mechanism for travel across the Karama border crossing.
