Tuesday, gyms across the Kingdom reopened their doors after more than two months of closure.

A General Manager of one of the local gyms in Amman, Kais Madanat, told Roya News English the coronavirus restrictions that the government imposed have affected the gyms and sport facilities badly. He continued by saying that he hopes the government will come up with new measures that will revive these sectors.

He stressed that all gyms still have to adhere to the required health and safety measures such as social distancing and sterilizing the gym.

Madanat also said that in order to enter the gym, everyone must receive at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, with 21 days having passed since receiving it.

“I think the new restriction regarding the need to [receive] the first dose, is not clear yet,” Madanat said.

He continued by saying that if someone contracted the coronavirus and is not allowed to receive the vaccine, what is the procedure that must be taken, or if someone conducted a PCR test, is he allowed to enter the gym?

“There are still some gaps that the government has not filled yet,” he said lastly.

A fitness consultant, Rami Jarwan, said that the closure of sectors affected them not only financially, but it also prevented them from working out daily.

Jarwan said, “We are very happy now that gyms are open,” adding that he hopes the government will not close them again.

Roya News English lastly asked a client at the gym about the need to be vaccinated with at least one dose. The individual said “I honestly agree with that, I feel like it helps everyone to have the confidence in working out and knowing that at least someone else is also vaccinated against the coronavirus.”

May 26, a press briefing was held at the Prime Ministry to announce the procedures put in place in order to reach a 'safe summer' in Jordan, in light of the COVID-19 situation in the Kingdom.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs Sakher Dudin said the government will start reopening closed sectors starting Tuesday, June 1.
