The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mahmoud Zureikat, confirmed that all medicines for treating chronic diseases, including alternative medicines, are available in the warehouses and hospitals of the Ministry of Health and health centers.

In his response to what was published about the shortage of some medicines for treating chronic diseases, such as blood pressure and diabetes, in one of the health centers in Irbid Governorate, Zureikat stated that medicines for chronic diseases in general, and blood pressure and diabetes in particular, are available in warehouses and all hospitals and centers of the Ministry of Health.

He explained that in the event that any treatment is lacking in any health center, alternative treatment is available.

He noted that the dispensing of these treatments and alternative treatment is through a prescription from the specialist doctor, for those who hold health insurance or a chronic disease card, and in cases where the prescribed treatment is not available, especially if it is one of the necessary life treatments, it is prescribed to the health-insured patient to be disbursed from the private sector at the expense of Health insurance fund.

Zureikat also confirmed that the strategic stock of chronic medicines is available, and the stock is kept up-to-date in the central warehouses, and all medicines are available in the subsidiary warehouses in the governorates, and the medicine stock and all medical supplies are also followed up on, to avoid any shortage that may occur.

He pointed out that the mechanism for distributing medicines and medical supplies from these warehouses to all health centers in the governorates of the Kingdom is carried out strategically.
