Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call Saturday from US President Joe Biden, the first between them since Biden entered the White House in January.

The call comes amid a major escalation of violence in historical Palestine on behalf of the Israeli Occupation that has left over 150 Palestinians dead, most from airstrikes.

On multiple occassions throughout his long career in politics, President Biden has affirmed his everlasting support for the Israeli Occupation, even identifying himself as a Zionist.

Earlier in the week, he said "Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory."

He did not mention Palestinians in the comments.

Spokesperson for the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP that, "President Abu Mazen received an important call from US President Joe Biden, which is the first of its kind."

The spokesperson did not reveal the content of the conversation.
