China announced Thursday that it "firmly condemns" the statement of foreign ministers from the G7 nations who criticized China's human rights policy and repression in Hong Kong.

"The G7 ministers made baseless accusations against China and blatantly interfered in its internal affairs," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Weinpin told reporters.

The G7 was founded in 1975 and consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group met this week to discuss several world 'threats' including the coronavirus pandemic, China, and Russia.
