More than 1.4 million registered to receive COVID-19 vaccine

Tuesday, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Health Adel Al-Belbisi said that the government will allow those who were infected with the coronavirus at least three months ago, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The decision came during a meeting held by the Health and Environment and Population Committee, a former member of the National Committee for Epidemics Control, Azmi Mahafza, and the General Director of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Nizar Muhaidat.

During the meeting, it was announced that the ministry has contracted to purchase about 11 million coronavirus vaccines, including around five million from Pfizer, two million Sinopharm vaccines, two million AstraZeneca vaccines, and two million different vaccines from the COVAX Initiative.

Regarding the latest statistical updates related to the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Jordan, Belbisi said that more than 1.4 million registered to receive the coronavirus vaccine as of Tuesday morning.

Additionally, he said that around 695,000 people received the first dose, while 137,000 received both doses.

Belbisi indicated that 200,000 people missed their appointments to receive the first dose of the vaccine.

He added that among those registered on the official platform there are 160,000 people who were previously infected with the coronavirus.

He said there are 95 vaccination centers across the Kingdom, in addition to two drive-thru vaccination stations in Amman.

He said that the ministry aims to reach a safe summer by administering around two to three million COVID-19 doses until June 30.
