During an Zoom interview on the Roya news bulletin Saturday, a doctor from the UAE, Walid Abu Hammour stated that the shortage of specialist doctors and critical care consultants in the Kingdom is a direct cause of the increase in coronavirus deaths in Jordan.

He added that a lack of medical personnel and nursing staff who are trained to deal with respirators is also a cause of the high number of coronavirus deaths.

He emphasized that there is a very big defect in the intensive care departments in Jordanian hospitals.

Abu Hammour said that relatives are delaying sending their family members to intensive care departments in Jordan due to them "feeling" like their loved ones would die once they are admitted into the ICU. Citizens believe the death rate in these departments is 50 percent.

He called on the government to restore confidence to the Jordanian citizen, and to work on improving the "shaky hospital image."
