The American Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) staff endorsed Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, which brings America one step closer to introducing a third vaccine in the United States. The staff will brief the FDA’s Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee Friday on J&J’s request for emergency use.

In the past, the FDA authorized Pfizer and Moderna's vaccine a day after the committee of outside medical advisors supported the emergency use authorization. The FDA doesn’t have to follow the committee’s recommendation, but it often does.

The Jordanian Minsiter of Health Nathir Obeidat previously said, "We hope [to obtain vaccines] from other companies such as AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson when their vaccines are available.”
