Wednesday, the media spokesperson for the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Nasser Al-Rahmaneh, said that despite the heavy rain that Amman has witnessed since Tuesday evening, no cases of water gatherings, flooding or closures in streets were recorded.

He added that the municipality had received up to 14 complaints, most of which were caused by traffic accidents or sewage water, and the GAM’s staff dealt with them immediately.

He indicated that the municipality’s projects to drain water and fund water-drainage systems showed high efficiency and success which solved flooding problems caused by rain puddles which were faced in previous years.

The areas affected by high water levels previously were Wadi Al-Tay, Wadi Al-Qamar, the 7th and 8th circles in Amman, and Abdullah Ghosheh Street.

The GAM had previously declared a state of emergency due to high water levels.

On the other hand, the media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said that all roads in all parts of the Kingdom are in acceptable conditions to drive in, however, they called on citizens to exercise caution while driving, especially in the evening and early morning periods, for fear of the slippery roads due to frost and black ice.

The spokesperson stressed the use of public safety means while driving and avoiding high speeds in order to avoid traffic accidents as a result of black ice. The PSD urges everyone to remain alert as some vehicles may be stranded on the sides of roads.

They called for citizens and residents to reduce transportation movement as much as possible, and to comply with the instructions of public security officers deployed on the roads to guide them and provide them with assistance when necessary.

The Civil Defense Directorate emphasized the need for compliance with public safety requirements on the roads in the event of low horizontal visibility due to fog.

Additionally, they urged everyone to stay away from streams and valleys, and heavy objects which are not cemented to the ground due to active winds.

Should any issue arise, the PSD urges citizens and residents to contact 911.

Notably, the Director of the Operations and Control Directorate, Brigadier General Firas Al-Khatib said on the Public Security Radio that since the announcement of the harsh weather conditions, 911 has received 23,000 calls.

Al-Khatib indicated that the average rates of daily calls to emergency services totals to 11,750 to 12,000 calls.

Al-Khatib said that the PSD has made all the required preparations to face the weather conditions as per the request of the Director of the PSD, Major General Hussein Al-Hawatnmeh.

He indicated that 48 hours ago, plans to deal with the weather conditions were drawn up from all departments of public security, adding that gendarmerie civil defense officers and external patrol teams were directed to work to maintain the traffic on roads.
