The US Department of Defense announced Friday its intention to include the Israeli Occupation in its central command area in the Middle East, in a measure that appears to be aimed at strengthening the anti-Tehran front.

"The easing of tension between Israel and its Arab neighbors, thanks to the Abraham Agreements, gives the United States a strategic opportunity to bring together important partners against common threats in the Middle East," the ministry said in a statement.

Because of the redrawn balances in the Middle East, the Pentagon estimated that military ties with the Israeli Occupation can be managed through the Middle Eastern arm of Central Command (Centcom) and not through the European arm.

This step could facilitate military cooperation on regional issues and bring Israeli Occupation military officials closer to their counterparts in the Arab Gulf states.

But it could also complicate CENTCOM's cooperation with Iranian allies such as Iraq.

US diplomacy under the administration of Donald Trump broke the Arab consensus on not normalizing relations with the Israeli Occupation before there is a viable solution for Palestinians.

Friday, the US Department of Defense announced the reduction of the number of its forces in both Afghanistan and Iraq to 2,500 personnel, in line with Trump's endeavor to put an end to "never-ending wars."
