The European Commission announced Wednesday that it has approved a fourth contract with companies Pfizer and Biontech to buy 200 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine on behalf of all EU members.

The Commission contract also includes a clause which allows them to order up to 100 million extra doses upon making sure that the vaccine is safe and effective, said Italian news agency AKI.

They indicated that member states of the EU can decide to donate the vaccine to low or middle-income countries or redirect it to other European countries.
