Polling stations closed at 9pm Tuesday after a two-hour extension across the Kingdom, announced the Independent Election Commission (IEC).

A total of 1,386,749 votes were cast upon closure of the ballot boxes for Tuesday's 19th parliamentary elections.

Additionally, 1,693 candidates competed for 130 seats in Jordanian Parliament across 23 electoral districts. Fifteen seats are allocated for women.

The results are expected to be announced Wednesday afternoon during the post-election lockdown.

Kalaldeh pointed out that the security officers present at polling stations are unarmed and have organized the voting process as well as ensured compliance with official election guidelines.
