The report, published Wednesday, indicated that 182,000 new cases were reported last week, representing 5 percent of globally reported cases, while the number of new deaths reached 4,700 deaths during the past week, reaching an increase of 10 percent.

The report indicated that since early September, cases and deaths caused by COVID-19 in Iran have gradually increased, reaching more than 50,000 new cases (600 cases per million people) and 2,500 new deaths last week.

Iran has the highest mortality rate overall in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with a total of 415 deaths per million people since the start of the coronavirus crisis.

At a global level, the report indicated that more than 3.3 million new cases were reported worldwide last week, explaining that the acceleration in COVID-19 infection from new cases was the most prominent in the European region, which reported half of the global new cases (more than 1.7 million), an increase of 22 percent from the previous week.

Moreover, the European region also recorded a significant increase in the number of new deaths, increasing in 46 percent compared to the previous week.

The report pointed out that the countries that reported the largest number of cases last week are still the same as in the previous four weeks, USA, India and France.
