The media spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), Abla Weshah, said that the Commission has seized the licenses of 80 transport agents in Irbid Wednesday, due to the lack of adherence to the safety and preventive measures stipulated in the defense orders to prevent COVID-19.

She added that a field monitoring committee affiliated with the authority began a campaign in the Irbid Governorate to monitor the adherence of various public transport modes to safety and preventive measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

She explained that the committee was formed to control public transport’s adherence to the instructions issued under the defense orders in terms of the vehicle driver wearing a face mask and the abiding to seat capacity limitations.

Weshah pointed out that on the first day of the campaign, the committee seized 80 licenses of transport agents, and drivers signed pledges of commitment.

In addition, seven medium buses which violated the seat capacity of 75 percent, were transferred to the competent authorities, noting that repeated violations will result in the cancellation of the licenses of the violating transport agents.

Weshah pointed out that the committee has seized the licenses of more than 500 transport agents that did not comply with the defence orders in Amman during the past week.

She stressed that the authority is intensifying its monitoring campaign on public transport, which includes large and medium buses, taxis and smart applications such as Uber, calling on operators and workers on public transport to adhere to the instructions issued under defense orders.
