The government does not not want a 21-day lockdown and does not have any plans to impose any long lockdowns, said the Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Al-Maaytah Tuesday.

The upcoming post-elections lockdown is expected to start Wednesday night, he said on Roya's Nabd Albalad.

November 11 will be a normal working day, he added.

Maaytah said the only official entity authorized to postpone the elections is the Independent Elections Commission.

The head of the coronavirus portfolio Wael Hayajneh said the procedures implemented by the government are proof that a long total lockdown is not what the government wants.

Hayajneh said a total lockdown is an extreme measure that can only be applied in extremely exceptional circumstances, which is not the case in Jordan right now.

A total lockdown would be imposed when the increase in the number of cases is out of control and the health system is on the verge of collapsing.

He said he is worried about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the limited number of hospital beds.
