A study conducted by Consumer Protection on the changes in commodity prices compared to their prices at the beginning of 2020 revealed an increase in the prices of 12 food items and consumer goods by 25.9 percent, a decrease in the prices of 15 commodities by 19.8 percent, and the stability of the prices of 69 other commodities.
According to the study, the prices of some vegetables have significantly increased:
Potato prices decreased by 40 percent while the prices green peppers, cabbages and lettuce prices remained steady.
As for fruits, the price of local bananas decreased by 32 percent and the prices of imported apples, bananas and oranges remained stable.
Lamb prices increased as follows:
All the prices of local meat remained stable.
The prices of fresh chicken decreased by 7.6 percent, fresh organic chicken by 20 percent, and the price of live “nattafat” chicken, frozen organic chicken and frozen fish remained fixed.
The study also showed that egg prices have increased in by 44.4 percent, vegetable ghee by 10 percent, and prices remained stable for rice, tea, sugar, legumes, milk, yoghurt, cheese, vegetable oils and canned foods.
