A member of the National Committee for Epidemics, Faris Al-Bakri, spoke Sunday about the repercussions of the coronavirus crisis in light of its societal spread reaching unprecedented levels.

Al-Bakri expects an increase in new COVID-19 cases in the coming period, with the matter being dependent on the people’s commitment.

In a statement to Roya, Al-Bakri explained that it is possible to consider a total lockdown even though this stage has not been reached yet.

However, if cases increase, the capacity of the healthcare system and the procedures followed will be reviewed accordingly.

Al-Bakri criticized the lack of commitment of citizens, which has led to further outbreaks, noting that the percentage of non-compliance and complacency is very high.

He stressed that Jordan has not reached a deficit stage in the face of COVID-19 and has called for further commitment to health measures.

It is expected that the strict measures would lead to a reduction in the number of people infected with coronavirus, believing that the Jordanians should push to be more committed, he added.

Some COVID-19 patients did not even comply with home isolation, added Al-Bakri.

In terms of electoral gatherings, Al-Bakri recommended further strictness in preventing and controlling these gatherings, otherwise disobeying the health measures will lead to an increased amount of COVID-19 infections and deaths.
