BALADK, a flagship cultural event of Amman that celebrates the urban arts movement, commenced the second phase of its annual public art festival Monday. The first phase was held virtually in June.

“Art is Environment, Environment is Art” is the theme of the 2020 festival. Using street art as its tool, BALADK aims to address the importance of environmental practices such as waste management. BALADK will use practices such as public interventions, workshops, and murals to increase awareness about the vast amounts of waste produced from everyday activities. The festival hopes to promote more environmentally friendly habits.

New murals and artwork will be added to an already extensive list of locations throughout Amman, bringing the festival’s legacy to include nearly 35 major works.

Presented by Al Balad Theater since 2013, the festival will run through October 18.

The festival is in partnership with The GIZ - German Corporation for International Cooperation, Greater Amman municipality, SIDA, EUNIC Jordan, European Union, Tamasi Collective, AFD – French Development Agency, National Paints, StadtWandKunst and Montana Cans, Ro’ya TV and Mazaj Fm as media partners.
