Arsenal FC midfielder, Mesut Özil, has offered to pay Jerry Quy's salary, the man who wears the famous Gunnersaurus mascot costume, after it was announced that Quy has been fired as part of cost-cutting measures.

Özil tweeted saying: "I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot and integral part of our club was made redundant after 27 years. As such, I'm offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much."

Arsenal fans did not respond well to the management's decision.

Arsenal fans called on the team’s management to cut off Özil, who earns more than GBP 300,000 per week and is not taking part in matches, instead of letting the mascot go.
