The Jordanian armed forces, the Arab Army, started deploying soldiers to all governorates in preparation for the upcoming nationwide 48-hour total lockdown, starting at 12am on Friday.

The two-day lockdown, on Friday and Saturday, was announced based on decisions by the Crisis Management Cell, following an increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases and deaths in Jordan.

The director of the Crisis Management Cell, Mazen Farrayah, said the cell will keep a close eye on the areas in which the number of cases continues to rise, based on a geographical tracking system at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management.

The 48-hour lockdown will be implemented every week until further notice.
