Jordan confirms 9 new COVID-19 cases

Nine new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Jordan on Friday, including three local cases, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis to 1,329.

The local cases involve people who came into contact with other positive cases — two in Ramtha and one in Irbid.

Four cases involve people from abroad who are currently staying in hotel quarantine — two travelled from Syria, one from Saudi Arabia and one from Russia.

Two cases involve Jordanian truck drivers who have entered from Saudi Arabia via Al-Omari border crossing.

Seven recovery cases were confirmed on Friday, all of which were discharged from quarantine in the Dead Sea isolation area.

A total of 7,407 random tests were conducted today, bringing the total number conducted so far to 679,751.

Starting Saturday, and based on Defence Order No. 11, business owners and citizens must adhere to the utmost level of caution and penalties will be imposed on facilities in which workers or customers do not wear facemasks or neglect health and safety measures.

Curfew hours will be extended to start at midnight until 6am and the commercial sector can operate until 11pm.

The Ministry of Health reiterated the need to adhere to preventive measures, avoid gatherings for more than 20 people, wear facemasks, social distance, and use Aman and Sehtak mobile applications.
