The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh, urged Jordanians to adhere to protective health and safety measures, and to avoid gatherings that do not adhere to regulations – referring to the Tawjihi results for secondary education set to be announced soon.

During his interview with radio station Amen FM, Adaileh said the increase in local coronavirus cases is a concern.

The reason for the influx is due to people failing to adhere to protective health and safety measures, he said.

Referring to the activation of Defence Order 11, Adaileh said: “No decision has yet been made regarding the number of passengers in buses.”

In response to the reimplementation of a partial or full lockdown, Adaileh hopes the government will not resort to such a decision, emphasising that a lockdown incurs great economic and social costs.

“In light of the current situation, if the number of coronavirus cases rises significantly -resulting in threats to the overall COVID-19 situation, committees along with the Ministry of Health may resort to recommending imposing a lockdown,” he said, adding that the situation is currently under control and there are no indications of a full or partial lockdown.
