Spokesman for the national committee for epidemics Nathir Obaidat announced that the total number of coronavirus cases in Jordan has risen to 29.

The government has recently announced a series of measures to fight the virus.

During a press conference held today, Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh said that restaurants will no longer be receiving customers. People can only get food through delivery service and the "drive-thru" service.

He added that a circular was issued for schools to activate distance learning and that all commercial truck drivers will be undergoing medical tests.

Public and private companies are prevented from using air conditions, the Minister said, calling on citizens to stay home as a precaution.

For his part, the Health Minister confirmed that all flights from and to Jordan will be suspended as of tomorrow.

Jaber stressed that all the infected had arrived from countries with coronavirus cases and that the health personnel will follow up on the health conditions of the suspected cases, indicating that more than 200 people underwent medical examinations in the past two days.

Earlier in the day, Adaileh announced additional government precautionary health measures that will be implemented immediately to prevent the spread of the virus in Jordan.

The measures include:

- All arrivals in Jordan through airports and border crossings are subject to compulsory quarantine for a period of 14 days at hotels designated by the government as centers for quarantine in the Dead Sea and Amman. They will be subjected to health procedures adopted by the Ministry of Health.

- As a precautionary measure, arrivals are not permitted to be welcomed by their families or anyone at the airports and border crossings. Only people authorized will be allowed to be present at the airports.

Adaileh stressed the need to fully adhere to the decisions previously announced by the government, stressing that the government works on protecting citizens' health and will take firm measures to prevent the virus from spreading in the Kingdom.
