Agriculture launches project to strengthen food security of families affected by Syrian crisis

The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), has launched a project to strengthen the food security of Jordanian families affected by the Syrian crisis in the Kingdom's governorates.

The project aims to create 800 training opportunities in the agricultural sector through a range of activities that will focus on improving tree cover, pastures, maintaining and collecting water infrastructure, and introducing water conservation techniques such as hydroponics.

The project will enable and support rural communities and enable women to contribute to raising rural household income through income-generating agricultural projects.

The program will continue to support the Ministry of Agriculture to work at the community and family level to improve income-generating employment for households without food security by increasing productivity, enhancing resilience to climate change, restoring community assets and natural productive resources, said WFP Country Representative Sarah Gelson. As well as training and promotion of livelihoods and work on gender equality in agriculture and rural development.

She added that the importance of increasing investment in agriculture and rural development in order to achieve the second goal of sustainable development, namely ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
