The Iranian authorities decided on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, to release the three Jordanian citizens who had been arrested in Tehran after “mistakenly” entering Iranian territorial waters in late December 2018, said the spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Sufian al-Qudah.
The three Jordanians will have to pay a fine for going on a fishing trip in the territorial waters, which is illegal according to Iranian policy, and for damaging an Iranian security patrol boat, Qudah added.
Qudah expressed his gratitude to the Iranian government for releasing the three Jordanian citizens, explaining that the Ministry kept following up on the case until the decision was made.
