A man has attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge in Sweileh, Amman, a security source has told Roya.
The source said that the man survived and has been medically attended to, adding that his health condition is mediocre.
Police have opened an investigation into the suicide attempt, the source confirmed.
Suicide cases in Jordan increased by 8.33% in 2017 when compared with the year prior, according to the Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI), which cited the 2017 Criminal Statistics Report.
According to the report, 527 cases of suicide were registered in the Kingdom between 2012 and 2016, with men claiming the larger number of deaths.
Many of the suicides were committed due to “personal disputes,” “family disputes” and “psychological diseases,” according to the Criminal Investigation Department.
