The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 6.0 earthquake has hit Iran earlier this morning, August 26, 2018.

The initial report of USGS stated that the quake’s depth was of 10.0 KM and centralized 26 KM southwest of Javanrud, Kermanshah Province. Casualties “are likely" but the scope of damage is "relatively limited," the report added.

The official IRNA News Agency quoted Kermanshah’s Governor who announced that the earthquake has caused 90 injuries and killed one person.

Later, however, head of the emergency department at the Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences told reporters that the earthquake resulted in two deaths; a pregnant woman and a 70-year-old man who suffered a heart problem as well as 241 injuries, six of whom are in a critical state.

According to the Governor, a crisis unit was established to administer rescue operations, coordinate between emergency teams, and assist medical units with the necessary equipment needed to provide treatment to those injured.

In November 2017, an earthquake of 7.3 magnitude hit the same region, which resulted in the death of at least 530 people.
