Special Envoy of UN Secretary-General on Syria, Staffan de Mistura, called on an Iranian-Russian-Turkish meeting to discuss the establishment of a constitutional committee in Syria, a United Nations spokesperson said on Friday, August 24, 2018.

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place on the 11th and 12th of September in Geneva, will revolve around forming a suitable committee that will be tasked with drafting a new Syrian constitution.

De Mistura aims to have a constitutional committee that is ready for negotiations prior to the UN General Assembly in New York, which is to be in late September. The constitutional committee will include a number of governmental delegates as well as opposition members who currently reside inside and outside of Syria.
