Israel said on Thursday that it will shut down Gaza’s Erez crossing - for people - and Karem Abu Salem crossing - for goods - due to “security concerns.”

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a statement that the crossings would not be open starting December 13, in light of the latest developments.

He also said the Israeli army attacked a military base of Hamas in response to alleged rocket attacks earlier from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli warplanes had earlier attacked posts in the Gaza Strip causing damage but no injuries, according to reports from Gaza. However, last week, two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike.

Israeli military officials warned Gazans of dire consequences if the rockets, presumably by extremist groups in response to last week’s U.S. President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, would continue to fall on Israel.

Since Trump’s announcement last week, tensions have intensified across the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, with clashes, injuries, and arrests every single day.
