Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, is scheduled to make his first visit since his appointment to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Israel on the 28th of August.
Guterres will hold talks with Israeli officials before going to Ramallah to meet Mahmoud Abbas. The Secretary-General will conclude his three-day visit in Gaza where the UN manages humanitarian aid programs, according to AFP.
The Israeli Envoy at the UN told AFP that the visit will allow Guterres to build a relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Guterres’ visit comes after attempts to refresh the peace process between Palestine and Israel, after rising tensions between the two in the past three weeks.
