In an attempt to minimise assault against doctors in hospitals, the Jordan Medical Association (JMA) has issued a statement regarding reports that they allege are being filed with malicious intent against medical staff.

The JMA has released instructions regarding the processing of ‘malicious’ medical reports, submitted by assaulters of medical staff after the assault has taken place.

Some offenders allegedly inflict harm upon themselves after a conflict with medical staff, and file a medical report on the incident in order to negate the medical report filed against them by the doctors.

The JMA suggested private security staff be replaced with members of the Public Service Directorate (PSD) to counter cases of assault against hospital staff as well as the separation of patients and their visitors.

There have been 60 instances of assault against doctors since the start of this year in Jordan.

Two weeks ago, two doctors were assaulted in Al bashir hospital in Amman by the relatives of a patient.

In the week prior to that incident, the JMA had a demonstration in public hospitals, protesting the increase of assaults against doctors in the month of June, which at the time have been reported to be 12 cases.
