The United States, Israeli Occupation and the Palestinian Authority opposed to the release of Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti, according to undisclosed sources cited by Arabi21 and Middle East Eye.

This opposition from the US came in response to Israel's request to keep Barghouti incarcerated.

Marwan Barghouti, a prominent member of Fatah and a significant Palestinian political figure, has been imprisoned since 2002.

Hamas is said to seek his release as part of a potential hostage exchange agreement with Israeli Occupation.

The reluctance from both the US and Israeli Occupation to release Barghouti is said to be linked to recent physical assaults he endured from Israeli Occupation prison guards, which have raised concerns about his safety.

The report also suggested that the Palestinian Authority is also hesitant about Barghouti's release, as President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly fears it could lead to internal divisions within Fatah and pose a threat to his leadership.
