At least 3 people were killed, and 28 others injured, in a collision between two trains on the main island of Java in Indonesia on Friday morning, according to local police.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo stated that the incident occurred on Friday morning near the rice fields in Cicalengka, West Java province, noting that many carriages overturned due to the accident.

The collision involved two passenger trains—the first being a local train and the second being an inter-city train, which was on a journey from Surabaya in East Java to Bandung, the capital of the province.

Ain Hanibi, spokesperson for the local branch of the state railway company "PT Kereta Api," said, "We have identified one of the victims as a steward on the inter-city train. However, the others have not been identified."

He added that the inter-city train was carrying 287 passengers, while the local train had 191 passengers.

All passengers were evacuated, and the injured were taken to the local hospital.
