State Minister for Media Affairs, Amjad Adayleh said on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, that the latest decision to merge or abolish independent government units entails legal action that requires amendments to legislations governing their work.

The shakeup of the independent entities and institutions is part of the second executive package of the government's economic program, which was unveiled earlier this week.

Adayleh said that the amalgamations and cancellations require the completion of the legal and constitutional procedures before taking force "within an integrated process that got underway after the cabinet issued the decision to abolish or merge some of the independent units and institutions."

Head of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau Fidaa Homoud said that the merger of the Jordan Hijaz Railway Corporation into the Ministry of Transport would not contradict the constitution or breach the Sharia law provisions or change its legal status as a waqf (endowment).
