The concerned parties started on Thursday, July 18, 2019, clean-up work and removal of the effects of the fire that broke out in the Al-Husseini Mosque in Downtown Amman last night.

The minor fire broke out in a library, estimated at 50 square meters in the second floor of the Mosque due to electrical contact, the Media Department at the Civil Defense Directorate (CDD) had earlier said in a statement.

Firefighters at the CDD in East Amman were able to extinguish the fire, where no human injuries were reported.

For his part, His Majesty King Abdullah II directed the Royal Court Chief to restore the shrine and maintain its Islamic, historical and architectural designs.

The King has also ordered to provide the mosque with all it needs including furniture, equipment, and carpets.

His Majesty also directed the competent authorities to adopt a public safety plan that includes installing fire alarm systems as well as continued maintenance to historical mosques in the Kingdom.
