Speaker of the People's Council of Syria, Hammoudeh Sabbagh, said in a speech at the 29th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Amman, Jordan, that Jerusalem is the essence of Arabism, and defending it means defending Palestine and the existence of the Arab nation.

Sabbagh said that Syria’s victory over terrorism is a victory for all Arabs and that it will herald a new, more balanced world order.

Referring to the title under which the conference is held, “Jerusalem: The Eternal Capital of the Palestinian State”, Sabbagh said that defending Jerusalem is the same as defending Palestine, and defending Palestine is the same as defending the existence of the Arab nation.

Sabbagh asked about the fate of Jerusalem if the enemy had been successful in taking over Syria, adding that the circumstances have shown that the only choice we have as Arabs is resistance, for the sake of Arabism and Palestine.

He noted that despite the unprecedented scale of terrorism targeting Syria, along with the psychological and media war, as well as the diplomatic and economic embargo, Syrians proved that true strength lies in unbeatable willpower.
