Doctors preach their patients about keeping healthy, however, 15 doctors were caught smoking in public areas at Al-Zarqa Government Hospital this week, raising questions about their commitment to the Ministry of Health’s 2018 Health Law.

Dr. Mahmoud Zureikat, the hospital’s General Manager, told Roya that the doctors were found smoking in the hospital’s break rooms and on-call rooms.

A-Zarqa Government Hospital has very strict rules against smoking on its premises, which is why the physicians were immediately referred to court for their actions.

Dr. Zureikat pointed out that the no-smoking rule applies to patients and visitors, as well, adding that the hospital does not intend on providing “smoking areas,” in hopes of abolishing smoking.

For those who are thinking of breaking the law and lighting up while on hospital premises, Zureikat warned that there are more than 300 CCTV cameras watching their every move to ensure that no one is breaking the law by smoking or otherwise.
