His Majesty King Abdullah II sent a cable to Mexican President-elect, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, congratulating him on winning Mexico's presidential election.

The King, who sent wishes of prosperity and progress to the Mexican people and to their new President, also expressed that Jordan is looking forward to maintaining relations of friendship between the two countries.

Around 89 million Mexicans were eligible to vote in this round of elections, in which Lopez Obrador received the majority of votes (around 53.0%-53.8%).

The new President is set to take office later this year.
