During the Arab parliaments’ speakers meeting on Saturday, officials called for the severing of ties with any country that recognises Jerusalem as the capital of Israel or intends to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem.

The third meeting of the Arab Parliaments and Arab Parliamentary Speakers kicked off at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo on Saturday.

It was attended by the Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Abul Gheit and the Arab Parliament Speaker Meshal bin Fahmi al Salami.

Speakers of Arab parliaments also highlighted the Jordanian commitment to Jerusalem and the Hashemite Custodianship over Muslim and Christian sites in the holy city. They confirmed the kingdom’s essential role in the official Arab presence in Jerusalem.

The heads of the Arab parliaments issued a document to fight terrorism and extremist ideology that will be raised by the heads of the Arab parliaments to the 29th Arab League summit meeting in March.

In a statement released following the meeting held in Cairo, the speakers of Arab parliaments demanded a strong action against countries that voted in support of the US decision on Jerusalem.

The statement also urged the UN to lead a peace process to protect the Palestinian right to sovereignty over all Palestinian territories occupied by Israel in 1967 and to maintain the legal status of Jerusalem.

The attendees confirmed that the US could not be an impartial sponsor and broker of the peace process after their unjust stance, adding that the decision was faced by international rejection.
