Tour operators are profiting from Saudi Arabia’s recent social reforms, as Saudi Arabian women travel abroad for driving lessons following the kingdom's decision to lift the ban on female drivers.

Al-Watan Arabic newspaper reported that travel agencies have customized tour packages that include tickets, accommodation, and driving lessons by professional trainers for five days for two hours a day.

Companies are reportedly charging around SR3,900 per person (around 740 JD), with Egypt being the most popular destination for the aspiring drivers.

Recent rule changes from the Directorate General of Traffic mean driving lessons of 30 to 120 hours must be taken before would-be drivers can take a driving test to obtain a licence, according to Makkah Arabic news.

The move shows the eagerness of some women in the Kingdom to drive after Saudi Arabia's King Salman issued a decree in September announcing that the ban on women driving was going to be lifted on 24 June 2018.

Alongside driving lessons, thousands of women have reportedly already signed up to be drivers for ride-hailing app Careem, as the company pushes to recruit a total of 100,000 female drivers in the Kingdom.
