A hotel in Kyoto, Japan, refused to accommodate an “Israeli” man, citing his potential connections to “Israel's” military actions in Gaza, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Kyoto city government has directed Hotel Material to rectify its actions, stating that the refusal violates Japanese law.

According to Tokyo-based Kyodo News, the law prohibits hotels and other accommodation facilities from denying service to guests except under specific, legally defined circumstances.

Following an investigation, authorities concluded that the hotel's rationale for rejecting the man's online booking "is not a legitimate reason for denying accommodation."

“Israel's” embassy in Tokyo condemned the hotel's decision, labeling it "a clear case of discrimination that is not in line with Japan’s business law."

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa also weighed in on the controversy, denouncing the act of refusing accommodation based on nationality as "unacceptable."

During a press conference, Kamikawa stated, "We hope all visitors to Japan will be able to engage in various activities in Japan feeling secure.”
