Sucked into airplane engine: Man dies at Amsterdam airport

Officials at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport said that a person has died after falling into the spinning turbine blades of a passenger jet which was getting ready to take off.

Flight KL1343 of the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was getting ready to depart to the Danish city of Billund,

“An … incident took place at Schiphol today during which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine,” KLM Airlines said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Sadly the person has died…The circumstances are currently under investigation,” the statement added.

Passengers were removed from the plane and an investigation was opened by the Dutch border police, who are responsible for security at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Pictures circulated online of the plane surrounded by fire trucks and ambulances.
