The Greek Coast Guard discovered the bodies of three young girls aged between five and 10, who died  when a migrant boat sank northwest of the Greek island of Chios.

Additionally, the Coast Guard reported that they managed to rescue 19 migrants from the sinking boat, which included eight minors and the mother of the deceased girls.

The ill-fated boat was carrying a total of 27 passengers, predominantly Afghans with a few originating from the Turkish coast.

Information provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that over 11,300 migrants have arrived on the Greek islands since the beginning of this year.

This incident bears resemblance to similar tragedies that occurred last June when approximately 82 individuals lost their lives, with hundreds more reported missing, following another boat sinking off the coast of Pylos Island in the Peloponnese region.
