Fashion designer and sister of models Bella and Gigi, Alana Hadid, has launched a Palestinian-owned independent film production and distribution label named “Watermelon Pictures.”

The label will focus on “cultural representation and social advocacy, and be dedicated to amplifying the voices of underrepresented filmmakers across the globe.”

“We are so proud to introduce Watermelon Pictures! A Palestinian-owned film label that promises to make sure that from now on, Palestine WILL be seen #FromTheRiverToTheScreen,” said the announcement by Alana Hadid on her Instagram account.

“A production company that allows us to control our own narrative. A distribution company to share our stories with the world. A hub to develop our stories and talent, and produce films that entertain, educate, and inspire. We’re building a space for artists who dare to picture liberation. And so much more! Join us.”

The debut film for the label will be “Walled Off”, which centers around “The Walled Off Hotel” - located at the “Israeli” segregation wall in the West Bank.

The documentary is situated against the backdrop of the “Israeli” segregation wall, and sheds light on the lives of those on the front lines of creative resistance, exploring art as a vital form of protest and storytelling - according to Savior Flair.
