Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, during his visit to Jordan, has expressed his willingness that his government is determined for Parliament to recognize Palestinian statehood by July.

Spanish Media outlets quoted Sánchez telling a group of accompanying Spanish journalists during a tour of three Middle Eastern countries, "We must seriously consider doing so within the next three months."

Sánchez had stated earlier that he would propose a parliamentary vote for this topic by the end of the current legislative term (Mid-2027).

Spain along with three other countries—Ireland, Malta, and Slovenia—issued a joint statement on March 22 on the sidelines of the European Union leaders' summit in Brussels, stating they are "prepared to recognize Palestine" once suitable conditions for statehood are met.

Spanish newspaper, El País, noted that Madrid's recognition of a Palestinian state could occur during the campaign for the European Parliament elections held in Spain on June 9 or "in the following weeks."

Sánchez arrived in Jordan on Monday evening, the first stop on a regional tour that includes Saudi Arabia and Qatar, focusing on finding a solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

His Majesty King Abdullah II welcomed Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at Al-Husseiniya Palace on Tuesday, as part of ongoing efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

During the meeting, the critical situation in Gaza was discussed, with His Majesty emphasizing the urgency of halting the aggression, protecting civilians, and intensifying the delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical assistance to the Strip, ensuring its continuous provision.

His Majesty also emphasized the importance of sustained support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to fulfill its mandate effectively, particularly given the dire situation in Gaza.
